Why these remedies?

Homoeopathic remedies work energetically to stimulate the body’s innate ability to heal. It works according to the principle of ‘like cures like’ such that a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person, can be used to treat similar symptoms in a sick person. Over the last 200 years, observations, experiments, homoeopathic provings and clinical experience have resulted in the collection of symptoms associated with particular remedies which are recorded in traditional homoeopathic Materia Medica.

Aloe ferox is associated with a weakness of the anal sphincter allowing stools to pass with effort, often with urination. Stools may be lumpy, watery and jelly-like. Pulsating pain and bloated feeling in the abdomen proceeds the stool with excessive, offensive flatulence. There may be colic, before, during and after the stool.

Arsenicum album is beneficial for diarrhoea accompanied by a feeling of coldness of the limbs, face and extremities or with vomiting and prostration. The stools typically have a penetrating rotten or acrid smell and a dark green or black colour often with mucus. Cinchona succirubra is especially beneficial for helping to restore the body from the debilitating loss of vital fluids following diarrhoea. It benefits diarrhoea that tends to be frequent, watery and causes rapid tiredness and fatigue. Citrullus colocynthis is for digestive upsets especially with painful spasmodic, cutting, griping, grasping, or radiating abdominal cramps or colic.

Copious stools with much flatulence and pain in the abdomen. Sensation as if the rectum has been weakened by long standing diarrhoea. Magnesium phosphoricum is a homoeopathic anti-spasmodic remedy helping to relieve any condition with associated cramping of muscles or radiating pains. The diarrhoea relieved by Mag phos is typically watery and accompanied by cutting, darting, pains in the abdomen and rectum and often by vomiting. Matricaria recutita (Chamomilla) is beneficial in relieving diarrhoea that follows emotional outbursts or accompanies teething.

The stools tend to be watery, sour or foul smelling, often contain undigested food or mucus and cause burning in the anus. Mercurius corrosivus helps to relieve the continuous urging to pass stools with the feeling of never getting done. The stools tend to be hot, offensive, slimy and dark green with cutting pains and spasms in the rectum. Podophyllum peltatum benefits diarrhoea accompanied by profuse, foamy, putrid stools that constantly change colour and appearance and that follow much gurgling in the bowels. The rectum feels sore, raw and weak. Veratrum album is for painful diarrhoea with copious, watery stools which cause great prostration and cold perspiration. It also benefits diarrhoea which follows fright or is accompanied by vomiting.
